The sports auditorium echoed with the joyful shouts and excited laughter of the 2000 children as they waited anxiously in the bleachers. The emcee gave the word and groups of children came pouring down by turn. They were ready to start having fun in the many different canopies that had been set up.

These children had come from schools all over Ensenada to take part in the entertaining activities which were hosted by the DIF of Ensenada for Dia del Nino. One of the main needs facing Indonesia today is the education of its children and the need for quality educational materials, especially in the local language.There is a great vacuum for character-building materials which reinforce a child’s moral training in day-to-day living and learning to communicate and relate to those around him. Family Care Indonesia (FCI) had been invited to Kupang, a city in the east of Indonesia, to conduct a seminar on how to use the Treasure Attic educational series in pre-schools. This was our first time conducting this sort of seminar so we spent a good deal of time preparing the material before leaving Jakarta. We wanted to extend a special thank you to Activated Ministries for donating the cost of 1,000 “Word Basics” Books to be distributed free of cost in Indonesia. The Indonesian version of these books is translated “Dasar Firman”. This is a topical reference book to the Bible. This has been an ongoing project for over a year now since first receiving the funding for these books. “Don’t you have any more of those wonderful little books?” We had been asked this question repeatedly by our friends, who immensely enjoyed the Get Activated booklets. A fellow missionary had brought these booklets for us when he came from Brazil. A suitcase can only hold so much, and it wasn’t long until our limited amount of books had disappeared. It has been quite challenging for us over the last nine years that we have ministered here to obtain Portuguese materials, which is the language spoken and read by the majority of the population. Our volunteers had been preparing for El Dia Del Niño (Children’s Day) for a number of weeks, since is a very important day in Mexico and we had something very special for the kids of this county. The DIF of the county had helped us in the weeks leading up to Dia Del Nino to advertise, and we went from school to school posting signs for the upcoming event. Our focus was to help the neediest areas of the neighborhood and help to create a fun, memorable experience for these poor families and children. Our fifth medical brigade came together wonderfully, despite it being held on such short notice. Volunteer doctors from Texas said they were able to come for a medical camp in only a week’s time, so it was red alert while we made preparations for places to stay, meals, and secured sponsorships for gas, van maintenance and other needs. We completed our second medical camp on July 18, 2009 in the high Sierras, 1.5 hours outside Monterrey. The particular village that we visited this time is at 6,600 feet altitude (Monterrey is at 2,000 feet.) The population of about 4,000 people is spread out all over the mountains. Overlooking the fertile green lake basin, you’ll find village folks with mule-drawn plows farming their portions of the land. We’ve come to dearly love these mountain folks – they are so simple, wholesome and appreciative! Read more about Second Medical Brigade in the Sierras
