We recently received a phone call from Antonio, an old friend of ours who owns a seafood restaurant. Because he grew up as an orphan, he has always wanted to help the orphans and those that were economically disadvantaged. He asked us if we could perform our clown and puppet show for the orphans and kids on the “Dia Del Nino” (Day of the Child) here in Mexico. He explained that he was able to secure a location for this event at Poliforo Juan Gabriel: a hall that could hold 10,000 people.
We agreed to do all we could to ensure the success of this event and when discussing it later, we saw this as an opportunity to distribute children’s educational materials to the many children who would undoubtedly flock to the event. But how could we do this? Antonio was expecting 8,000 children to attend and we were at a loss as to where to obtain enough materials in time.
Then we were reminded of some missionaries in Fiji who had contacted Activated Ministries and asked them to donate books for their ministry. We approached Activated Ministries about this and found that they would be able to help with a donation of over 5,000 books, coloring books, posters and puzzles.
We still needed more books so we asked other merchants if they would also be able to sponsor some. After a few days we had another 3,000 books sponsored. Other merchants committed to giving hot dogs, nachos, drinks, popcorn, bicycles for the raffle, and cotton candy.
The books from Activated Ministries were delivered to the auditorium the night before the event. On the day of the event, they were handed out to the eager children at an amazing rate, and at the end of the day we had distributed over 6,000 books. This was such a memorable and special event, not only for the children but for our volunteers as well. Thank you, Activated Ministries, for helping us to pull it off!
