I just returned from a 3 week furlough in Australia. A dear friend shocked me by sending a free ticket to visit my family and friends in Aussie! Can you imagine??! It was the most brilliant 3 weeks holiday ever! I had a real break, and wonderful time to reconnect with friends and family in Australia.
One of the highlights of my visit was attending the "Gala for Gulu" in Canberra. (Photos #1, 2 and 3) The "Gala for Gulu" was staged by Michael Dooley, an absolutely brilliant jazz musician with a full jazz orchestra playing and singing and raising funds for our dear kiddos. Thank you, Michael!
Of course, there's no place like home! Landing in Uganda, the airport escalator is down because of no power. On our way back a car jerked narrowly missing a bodaboda bike with a lady passenger. We all smiled broadly so happy that he'd missed, and they were alive and OK. Cheery people everywhere greeting in languages I feel so comfy with -- it's WONDERFUL TO BE HOME!!
Thanks to the awesome team I work with, things went well in my absence! Kids finished up term exams, reports are finished, they had a rockin' sports day and a very special Easter together. Now, with Term 1 just completed, nearly all the kids are gone for 3 weeks to visit with their guardians. Meanwhile, back at the school, we're busy painting before all the kiddos return!!!
Before I sign off, I wanted to say a special thank you to Mike and Beatrice (Photo 4 and 5), the true heart of our very large team of staff and teachers, for everything they do. I thank God for them every day! Mike and Beatrice help everything possible! And, of course, a huge thank you to everyone who has donated to our cause! We couldn't make it without you either. I am just so happy to be working with such an awesome team!
