Bringing comfort to the families of the sick in San Antonio

Leslie Jones

The Ronald McDonald House is a home-away-from home where families can stay while their children are being treated at San Antonio’s various medical centers. The houses accommodate a total of 50 families with an average of 150 children.

Often a child with a diagnosed disease lives far from the hospital. This creates an especially stressful situation for parents, as they must cope not only with a seriously ill child, but also with the burden of being away from home for days, weeks, and sometimes months. The Ronald McDonald foundation aims to relieve this pressure on families by providing housing close to the hospital.

Just a few days before Christmas, our volunteers visited three Ronald McDonald houses in San Antonio. We distributed sets of three illustrated storybooks and activity books to each of the children staying at the houses, and also gave a set of children’s videos to the house library for the use of the families staying there. We cheered up each house’s residents with Christmas carols, encouraging the audience to sing along with us. At each visit, we personally counseled and prayed with many of the families.

We are very grateful to Activated Ministries for making our Christmas mission possible. This donation helped us to accomplish our goal of providing the sick children and their families with Christian material that would give them comfort, strength and encouragement so critically needed at this time. Thank you again for your generosity.
