Staying Focused on the Good

In the wake of recent tragedies such as Sandy Hook, the Boston Marathon bombings, and the daily casualties reported from hotspots around the world, the first thing we do is to show our support for those suffering through our prayers or by becoming “one of the helpers.”

However, in working through our reactions to such sad events, it’s important to guard ourselves from becoming hardened or feeling that tragedy, hurt, and evil is taking over the world.  If we step back for a moment and look at the big picture, we realize that the “broken” individuals who choose to hurt others or do wrong are in the minority, and on the losing side.  Evil may win some battles, but good will win the war.

Getting our minds and thoughts on those who have chosen to do good and celebrating with them for the differences they are making helps us remember that God is good and good will win in the end -- if we hold on and do what we can to make that good come to pass.

When I despair,
I remember that all through history
the ways of truth and love have always won.
There have been tyrants, and murderers,
and for a time they can seem invincible,
but in the end they always fall.

Think of it - always.
